In the last little while, I’ve delved into some really deep and heavy topics such as abuse, anger and mental health. Super important to me because I really enjoy sharing what I learned over the years to all the readers out there who inspire me with all their great blogs.
However, today I thought I’d take a break from all those deep thoughts and write a little something more light-hearted and organic.
As many of you already know, thinking and talking about mental health and all the wonderful things that make us who we are can be exhausting at times. There’s a lot of depth in those thoughts and it’s both enlightening and mind boggling at times. Well, tonight I’ve decided that I’m just going to sit at home, relax to a nice cup of tea, and “speak to you.”
I wasn’t terribly productive today and I’m totally fine with that. Here’s how part of my day looked: I played video games for a few hours (I just discovered the new Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac Age, for you gamers out there!), played some one-on-one basketball in the scorching heat vs my teenage son (and I manged to win one game!) and I managed to squeeze in a 30 minute nap which is rare for me. It would have been longer but unfortunately I was awakened by my lovely cat who needed to throw up on my bed, inches away from where I was resting.
I dropped off my son to his mom’s house and decided to stay in and blog, read and relax to the quiet sounds of the apartment. I love my alone time! Especially after some long, hard few days at work and running errands, it’s nice to have some peaceful time. It’s funny…I notice I need more of my quiet time as I get older. I wonder if that has anything to do with my growing desire to be mindful…..sorry, nope! I’m not going to think about mental health right now…
In a couple of weeks, we’re heading out for another fun filled camping trip, followed by a vacation to the Dominican Republic. We’re super excited and I can even feel the energy growing in my son and he gets bored of EVERYTHING! Just having the straight two weeks off will be the much needed downtime that I’m looking for. Sitting at the beach, having a drink and maybe trying some water activities…ahh, I can see it now….Both body and mind are one and taking a much needed break to recharge. It’s so important to reset sometimes whether it’s away on vacation or even time off from work to be with yourself. Arghhh…I just can’t get away from thinking about mental health, can I!
The reality is that whenever I refer to “Mental Health”, it’s not just about mental illnesses like depression, schizophrenia, bipolar or anxiety. I refer to Mental Health as everything that affects how we function and that’s why I can’t escape from bringing it up. It’s about how we manage our mental state in times of stress, overwhelming feelings, confusion or conflict. It’s also about what makes us happy, relaxed, calm and pleasant to be around. In short, our mental health is a what keeps us alive and defines us as individuals. So, taking a break from thinking about what keeps me alive would be a paradox….mind boggling….Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
